Recreation Commitee
The Recreation Committee, formed in 1959, continues to carry on the many traditions that make East Williston a unique community.
For the sports enthusiasts, there has been for the past 27 years, an ongoing tennis program for both adults and juniors. Exercise classes are given in the Village Hall and occasional sports events are planned. Our Memorial Day 5K Run/Walk has become a tradition along with the delightful Little Tykes' Race.
The Concert on the Green brings everyone out to enjoy an evening with their neighbors and to listen to the offerings of the Wheatley School orchestra.
Some popular social events have been tent parties, rock and bowl nights and Meet Your Neighbor receptions. Fall Harvest Weekends have something for everyone in the family. The weekend begins with a dance for our young adults, followed the next day by the Fire Department's Harvest Fair. The weekend concludes with a potluck dinner dance under the stars.
Our children have been provided with wonderful memories thanks to our Recreation Committee. The annual Ragamuffin Parade on Halloween brings out everyone's imagination and Mr./Mrs. Bunny can be counted on to make an appearance on the Village Green in the Spring.
Another time-honored tradition is the Village Tree Lighting ceremony in December. Residents gather on the Village Green to sing holiday songs and then walk over to the Firehouse to join Santa Claus for hot chocolate and cookies.
The Committee invites all residents - young and old - to take advantage of the various activities offered during the year.
